Historical Information on St. Peter's, Wootton

When a church was first founded over 600 years ago in the tiny village of Wootton, it was a chapel of Ease to the Mother Church of Cumnor. It was not until 1885 that the first Vicar of Wootton was appointed.

The Chancel is the earliest part of the building and probably dates from the 14th century. More recent additions to the building allow it to provide better for the needs of a more modern congregation - kitchen and toilet facilities, a new pipe organ, heating system etc.

The Church Today

Over the years the tradition of worship has varied with the churchmanship of the incumbent. Today the worship is from Common Worship in contemporary language.

Families and young children are welcomed to all the services and provision is made for them.

On the 1st Sunday of the month Dolphins meet during the 10.00 service. This is a group of children aged between 4 and 11, who worship God together and learn about him through stories. There are over 30 children on the register at present.

On the 2nd and 4th Fridays our Tiddler group for parents and pre-school children meets in church for songs, stories, practical activities and prayers followed by tea, squash and cakes. 23 families make up the Tiddlers group.

There is also a thriving choir at St. Peter's made up of adults and children - we would welcome more of you to join us. They lead the worship at the main services, and sing anthems on special occasions.
